Universal Love Poem

In the beginning was a singularity,

Which became everything we know and see,

Which was blown apart by a mystery,

And is now the ever-expanding Universe.

In the beginning was a unity:

Us before we came to be.

We’ve been the stars, the earth, the sea;

We’re pieces of the shifting Universe.

Rather than lost amid infinity,

We ended up as you and me,

And by some slim chance would once again meet,

Or perhaps by a grand inevitability.

So rather than mourn what did not come to be,

I’ll try being grateful that I got to see

This person more beautiful than all the stars they succeed

Despite the vastness of space and history.

I hope I see you again,

Whenever that may be.
